The BSE Sensex closed 85 points higher on Thursday in volatile trade. The market firmed up on the back of gainers in the index, including Infosys, Tata Steel and L&T. The 30-share Sensex ended 85.26 points, or 0.14 per cent, higher at 61,235.30. Similarly, the Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed at 18,257.80, up 45.45 points, or 0.25 per cent. Tata Steel was the top gainer with Sensex stocks rising over six per cent. Apart from this, Sun Pharma, L&T, Mahindra & Mahindra, PowerGrid, Bajaj Finserv, TCS and Infosys also gained major gains. On the other hand, the losers included Wipro, Asian Paints, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank and HCL Tech.
Narendra Solanki, Head of Equity Research (Fundamental), Anand Rathi Shares & Stock Brokers said, “Despite a declining trend in other Asian markets, the domestic market opened almost steady with slight gains. Higher inflation in the US and lower-than-expected bank credit in China impacted Asian markets. Meanwhile, international oil benchmark Brent crude rose 0.06 per cent to $84.62 per barrel.
