Himachal: Snowfall in tribal and high altitude areas, traffic disrupted at many places

Due to the effect of Western Disturbance active in the Himalayan region, the weather has changed in Himachal. The tribal and high altitude areas of the state have been receiving intermittent snowfall since last night, adding to the cold weather conditions in the state. Especially in the tribal areas, people are facing severe cold from now on.

According to the information, the Rohtang Pass, including the high hills of Lahaul-Spiti, is experiencing snow since last night. The fresh snowfall has made the roads slippery and disrupted traffic at many places. The Spiti sub-division of the district is also receiving snowfall since this morning and this snowfall has reached the residential areas and the entire valley is covered in a white blanket of snow. Due to extreme cold, water sources in Spiti sub-division have frozen. In the Lahaul valley too, water sources are frozen due to extreme cold and people are already facing shortage of drinking water.

Even on the high peaks of Kinnaur district, the sequence of snowfall continues since night. Due to this, people in the district are facing severe cold. On the other hand, the first snowfall of this season has also occurred on the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. Due to this there has been a sharp drop in the temperature in the entire Kangra Valley. Most parts of the state have been covered with dense clouds since morning and cold winds are blowing. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy snowfall in the high altitude areas of the state on December 2 and 3. The department has also issued a yellow alert of heavy rainfall at some places in the low and intermediate areas of the state during this period.
