A blow to Congress in Meghalaya, 12 out of 17 MLAs join Trinamool Congress!

Shillong, November 25 (Agency)

Twelve of the 17 Congress MLAs in the Meghalaya Assembly on Thursday joined the Trinamool Congress. Their leader and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma gave this information. This is considered a big setback for the Congress in the northeastern state. Sangma said the decision to join the Mamata Banerjee-led party has been taken “after a thorough analysis of how people can be served in a better way”.

“This decision was taken with utmost humility, responsibility and commitment to fulfill our responsibility towards the people, the state and the country,” he said at a press conference. Night had decided to join Trinamool. The group of legislators who broke away from the Congress handed over the list of MLAs who had joined the Trinamool to State Assembly Speaker Metba Lyngdoh and informed him about their decision. This development is very encouraging for West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee who is trying to expand the party outside her state.
