Gujarat’s ‘Hawala’ operator Alpesh Patel arrested in extortion case against former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir

Mumbai, October 21 (Agency)Mumbai Police has arrested 42-year-old ‘hawala’ operator from Gujarat in a case of extortion registered against former city police commissioner Parambir Singh. The accused, identified as Alpesh Patel, was nabbed by the Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch Unit-11 team from Mehsana in Gujarat, an official said on Thursday. Patel’s role came to the fore during the probe into the extortion case, which was registered a few months ago against IPS officer Parambir Singh by businessman Bimal Agarwal at the Goregaon police station here, the official said. Based on this, the Mumbai Police started searching for Patel, the official said. On a tip-off, a police team went to Mehsana and arrested Patel. The court sent him to police custody till Friday. Investigation is on in this matter.
