Government approves 3 percent increase in dearness allowance of central employees, pensioners

New Delhi, October 21 (Agency)The Cabinet on Thursday approved 3 per cent increase in dearness allowance and relief to central employees and pensioners. This will benefit 47.14 lakh employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners. Giving this information, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur told reporters that this increase would be from July 1, 2021. After this increase, dearness allowance and relief has increased to 31 percent. He said that on July 1 this year, the government had approved restoration of three arrears installments of employees and decided to increase dearness allowance/relief payable to employees and pensioners from 17 per cent to 28 per cent of basic pay/pension. Thakur said that in the meeting of the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it was approved to increase the dearness allowance/relief payable to the employees and pensioners by 3 percent. He said that 47.14 lakh central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners would benefit from this decision. The Information and Broadcasting Minister said that Rs 9,488 crore would be spent on this per year.
