Mumbai, October 21 (Agency)

A Mumbai court on Thursday dismissed Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s plea seeking transfer of the criminal defamation case filed against her by lyricist Javed Akhtar. The actress had filed a transfer petition before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate last month. The petition said that the petitioner “lost faith” in the magistrate’s court hearing the case, as it “indirectly threatened” to issue him a warrant in a bailable offence, if he failed to appear before the court. ” Gave. However, Akhtar had in the past opposed the petition saying that it has no merit and deserves to be dismissed. The lyricist had alleged that the petition was filed only for delay in proceedings before the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate Court (which is presently hearing the matter). After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the court dismissed Ranaut’s plea. However, the detailed order is yet to be made available. Akhtar (76) had filed a complaint in the court in November last year, claiming that Ranaut had made derogatory statements against him in a television interview, which allegedly caused damage to his reputation.
