Newcomer Venkatesh Iyer’s scintillating performance helped Kolkata Knight Riders register their second successive win since the resumption of the IPL this season as they beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets to break into the top four of the points table. This was Mumbai’s second consecutive defeat.

Powerful game by Iyer-Tripathi
Playing his second IPL match, Iyer scored 53 runs in 30 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Rahul Tripathi remained unbeaten on 74 off 42 balls. KKR chased down the target with 29 balls to spare after restricting Mumbai to 155 for six.

Dekock scored a half century
Despite Quinton de Kock’s half-century, Mumbai Indians could only manage 155 for six. KKR’s bowlers finally took five wickets for just 75 runs in ten overs. Shubman Gill and Iyer got KKR off to a great start. Trent Boult and Adam Milne gave away 15 runs in the first two overs. Gill was dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the third over. After this, Iyer and Tripathi shared an 88-run partnership to ensure KKR’s victory.

Rohit started fast
Earlier, captain Rohit Sharma made a great start for Mumbai by scoring 33 runs in 30 balls. Rohit, who performed brilliantly in the Test series in England, did not play the first match against Chennai Super Kings. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out for the second consecutive match, raising questions about his fitness.

Then Rohit became the victim of Sunil Narayan
Rohit hit spinner Varun Chakraborty for two consecutive fours in the fourth over. At the other end, de Kock scored 55 runs in 42 balls. He hit Lockie Ferguson for the first six of the match. De Kock, the famous Krishna who came in the sixth over, took 16 runs in his very first over by hitting two sixes. At that time the score was 55 runs without any loss.

De Kock hit Andre Russell for two consecutive fours. In the end, Sunil Narine got Rohit caught by Shubman Gill near the boundary line. He took Rohit’s wicket for the ninth time in T20 cricket.

Yadav also returned cheap
Suryakumar Yadav was the victim of Krishna after scoring five runs, who caught Dinesh Karthik behind the wicket. Meanwhile, de Kock completed his fifty in the 14th over. The KKR bowlers conceded only 26 runs in the 10th to 15th over and took two wickets.

Pollard played big shots in the last five overs to take the team past 150. In the last over, Ferguson picked up the wickets of Pollard and Krunal Pandya (12).
