German football player Dennis Erdmann has been handed an eight-week ban for racist remarks on an opposing player during a Third Division league match. Magdeburg players alleged that Erdmann used racist words against them last month while playing for Saarbrücken.

Stefan Oberholz, who presided over the disciplinary hearing of the case, said: “The German Football Federation does not tolerate any kind of racism or favoritism on the field and we are sending a clear message here.” The Saarbrücken club said they would appeal the decision.
