The Rio Olympics 2016 silver medalist thus kept her hopes of an maiden Olympic gold medal in badminton. Reigning world champion Sindhu took advantage of an 11-7 win record against world No. 5 Yamaguchi to clinch the opening game 21-13 in just 23 minutes. In the second game, Yamaguchi tried to make a comeback but the Indian did not allow him to do so and won in 33 minutes to secure a place in the last four.
